RDX XM203 Firmware Update Manual
RDX is continuously improving the XM203 firmware by adding new features and making enhancements. To ensure optimal performance, always keep your unit up to date with the latest firmware.
Firmware is now updated in your web browser using B.O.S.S. Unit Setup. There is nothing to download or install.
What you need
- A USB-C cable that carries power and data (some cables only charge).
- A Windows, Mac, Linux or Chromebook computer with Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge. Firefox, Safari, phones and tablets will not work.
- The latest firmware file from the bottom of this page. Unzip it so you have the file ending in .uf2 (for example XM203_REV2.32.uf2).
Connect the XM203
- Remove the USB dongle from the XM4 B.O.S.S. Unit.
- Plug the USB-C cable into the XM203 dongle port and into your computer.
- If the USB is providing power, the XM203 will start up as normal and show a flashing green and red LED. This means a USB power source has been connected.
Open B.O.S.S. Unit Setup
In Chrome or Edge go to rdxtech.net/software and click Open B.O.S.S. Unit Setup.
Update the firmware
Keep the USB cable plugged in the whole time.
Step 1 – Connect your unit. In B.O.S.S. Unit Setup click Connect. If a list pops up, click XM203 and then Connect.

Step 2 – Open the update screen. Click Update unit software at the bottom of the settings screen.

If B.O.S.S. Unit Setup says your unit has older software, click the Update unit software link in that message instead.

Step 3 – Choose the update file (box 1). Drag the .uf2 file into the box, or click Find the file… and select it.

Step 4 – Put the unit in update mode (box 2). Click Start update mode. If a list pops up, click XM203 and then Connect. The unit restarts and a drive called RDX appears on your computer (a File Explorer window may pop up – you can close it).

Step 5 – Copy the update to the unit (box 3). Click Copy update to unit. In the window that opens, click the RDX drive on the left, then Select Folder, then Edit files / Allow. The update is copied and the unit restarts by itself.

If the copy step doesn’t work, click Do it by hand instead. The tool saves the update file to your Downloads folder. Then open File Explorer and drag the .uf2 file onto the RDX drive.
Successful update
When the file has been copied, the RDX drive disappears and the XM203 reboots automatically. Wait about 10 seconds, click ← Back and then Connect. The new software version is shown at the top right of B.O.S.S. Unit Setup.

If the update doesn’t work
- Unplug the XM203, plug the USB-C cable back in and start the update again.
- If an RDX drive appears as soon as you plug the unit in, the update was only partly completed. Drag the .uf2 file onto that drive. When the copy finishes, the drive disappears and the XM203 restarts.
- Click ? Help in B.O.S.S. Unit Setup for more fixes, or use our ticket support page: support.rdxtech.net/boss/index.php. If support asks for a support file, click Save support file in the Help panel and send it to us.
Change your unit’s settings
Once the XM203 is running firmware 2.37 or newer, B.O.S.S. Unit Setup can also change its settings. If your unit has older firmware, B.O.S.S. Unit Setup asks you to update it first.
1. Connect. Open B.O.S.S. Unit Setup and click Connect. If a list pops up, click XM203 and then Connect.

2. Choose your settings. Use the slider or the − / + buttons. Settings you change turn red. Advanced settings are hidden – only change those if RDX support asks you to.

3. Check and save. B.O.S.S. Unit Setup lists every change. Check them, then click Save to unit.

When you see Settings saved, you can unplug the unit.

Older Windows software (RDX XComms Link)
The previous Windows program, RDX XComms Link, is still available. Use it if B.O.S.S. Unit Setup doesn’t work with your unit.

XM203 REV2.32 – Download
A Trigger Delay has been added to accommodate noisy trigger contacts. We observed that some systems generate electrical noise, for example when switching from semi-auto or auto to safe. Adding a delay to the trigger signal stops unwanted noise from activating the B.O.S.S. unit. The default delay is 25 µs and can be adjusted from 25 µs to 1 ms.
Test Mode now works correctly with semi-only settings.
XM203 REV2.26 – Download
Start in Silent Mode: when activated, the XM203 starts in silent mode and cannot fire even if a signal is received. This means FCUs (Fire Control Units) that activate the motor when power is connected won’t trigger the XM203. To exit silent mode and go live, tap either the up or down key. A beep confirms that silent mode is off.
Note: a green LED flashes every 3 seconds while the XM203 is in silent mode.
