Built in New Zealand. Trusted in service.

RDX Technologies specialises in weapon sound simulation. Our patented gas-acoustic technology delivers authentic report — from small arms to large-calibre cannon — with no pyrotechnics and no live ammunition.

Our systems are in service with the New Zealand Army and the Australian Defence Force, including cannon simulation for the Rheinmetall Boxer programme.

Our story

It started with one question: why doesn’t it sound real?

RDX was founded by twin brothers Shane and Mark Hugill, raised on a farm in rural New Zealand with a figure-it-out approach to every problem. Modern simulation could replicate the look and feel of a weapon — but the sound was missing.

Working from a small workshop, they tested every sound technology they could find. Years of trial, testing and iteration produced a patented single-fuel system that is now used by military and law enforcement organisations around the world.

Today RDX engineers every component, writes every line of firmware and tests every system until it is ready for the field.

Our mission

If training doesn’t feel real, it doesn’t build readiness.

RDX systems close the gap between simulation and live fire — the sound and sensory load of the real event, without the cost, risk or logistics of conventional ammunition.

Defence forces

Scalable simulation from individual small-arms users to armoured vehicle crews. In service with the New Zealand Army and the Australian Defence Force.

Law enforcement

Sensory-rich scenarios that build muscle memory and decision-making under stress — without a live-fire facility.

Training providers

Professional-grade realism for security and tactical training organisations.

Directors

Engineered in-house, end to end.

Shane Hugill

Director · CAD design & manufacturing

Shane leads CAD design and hardware manufacturing.

Mark Hugill

Director · Electronics & software

Mark leads electronics, firmware and software development.

Together they cover every discipline in-house — from electronics and firmware to mechanical design, manufacturing and field testing — shaped by a philosophy of perseverance, innovation and self-driven problem-solving.
